You will find some of the world’s most challenging and scenic golf courses in Southwest Ireland.  There are two beautiful 18-hole courses in Kenmare and both within a five minute drive of Kenmare Coastal Holiday Cottages.  Kenmare Golf Club has fairways that run down to the shores of Kenmare Bay. The ‘Inner 8’ loop of holes are perfect for beginners while still challenging for the seasoned golfer.  The Ring of Kerry Golf and Country Club a few minutes drives from the cottages on the Sneem Road enjoys a spectacular position, high above Kenmare Bay. The terrace of the clubhouse’s Greens Restaurant (see above photo) is a lovely place to savour the scenery.  Both clubs welcome non-members and golf clubs are available to hire.

LOCAL GREEN FEES:  Kenmare Golf Club offers guests of Kenmare Coastal Holiday Cottages a EUR 5 discount on green fees (per round). The Ring of Kerry Golf Club & Country Club gives Kenmare Coastal Holiday Cottages a EUR 10 discount on their standard green fee rates and also offers a 7 day unlimited golf pass for EUR 100 . Also, both Clubs offer a “Kenmare Golf Ticket” which allows you to play both courses for EUR60 (weekdays only).

CLUB HIRE:  In 2014, the Clubs to Hire service will be available at Cork Airport.  This is a great way to avoid the hassle of bringing your golf clubs through busy airport terminals or paying airline fees for oversized baggage.  With this service, you simply order in advance online and when you arrive at Cork airport a representative from Clubs to Hire will be waiting for you with your set of golf clubs. It couldn’t be simpler. What’s more, it’s great value with prices starting from as little as EUR 35 per set per week.

An excellent resource to help you plan your golf trip is the Failte Ireland Golf Guide. The 2014 edition can be found here.   Describing Cork & Kerry as “a place to be seen to be believed”, the guide notes that “it’s a rare thing to find golf so intrinsically woven into the natural landscape, shaped by nature and the ages”. And with 52 course listed for the Cork & Kerry region, you won’t be stuck for choice!
